Merits of our Food-Grade barrels - GENERAL:
* Some barrels are clean inside, some may require cleaning - the extent of which is up to the buyer.
* Waterproofing: You may need silicone sealant / plumbing tape / 10mm expanded neoprene cord / a carrier bag or cling film across the opening, over which the lid screws on {best option} to ensure waterproofing
* All of these barrels can be used for collecting waste oil, outdoor pursuits (angling, keeping possessions dry when kayaking, constructing a barge, etc.), camping, caravanning, horticulture (they make very cheap plant pots, and the 30-litre barrels being particularly elongated, plants will grow with thicker bark, and they can be used as water butts when fitted with plastic taps), livestock-/bird- (pheasant feeders are a popular application)/horse-feeding, home brewing (when fitted with plastic taps, or simply used for grain storage), waste bins, etc. In fact, any purpose which involves creating "X" litres of clearly-defined space is relevant here. The barrels' being food-grade is essential to their diversity of applications.
* The removable lids make pouring in, securing, and pouring out any contents supremely easy.
* The handles facilitate carriage. Sizes 60-litre upward tend not to have handles, due to their gross weight.
* The barrels are stackable - recommended up to 3 high and no more, except in the case of the 25-litre barrels, which can be stacked up to 5 high.
* To conclude this brief list extolling the virtues of our plastic food-grade barrels, we can say that they have universal use, and specifically, they are great for small-large enterprises, but no matter what size the enterprise, a 30- or 50-litre plastic barrel will always find a niche in anything from industry to outdoor pursuits to ecology.
Merits specific to our 30-Litre Food-Grade barrels:
* Some barrels have an inner lid - a tray that sits at the top, like a diaphragm - as well as the mandatory outer lid.
* Some barrels have clamp-top lids, where a circular clip fixes the lid to the body (the lid in this minority of barrels is not screw-on). The clip can be plastic, or it can be metal. These barrels do not have an inner lid. In the case of clamp-top barrels, if one is using them to collect waste vegetable oil (as an example of their common use), it is advised that one keeps the clamp at home, using it only when transporting the barrels. That way, the clamp will not get mislaid.
LITTLE-KNOWN FACT: * 30-litre barrels are superior to any other size. Their full capacity is quickly discernible. The 30-litre barrels weigh approximately 1.8 Kg each. The entire container will only come to about 30 Kg when full. Even if using a sack truck (which would be necessary when collecting full barrels of anything above 30 litres in capacity, for example a full 50-litre barrel), one would still need to lift the full container into your vehicle at the end of the trek back to the vehicle and when unloading the vehicle. And so, 30-litre barrels are superior to 50-litre barrels in many ways. They are the nexus of portability against the backdrop of volume. Furthermore, one could simply give away a 30-litre barrel along with its contents when selling the latter. This would save time.
Merits specific to our 50-Litre Food-Grade barrels:
* The 50-litre barrels obviously have a larger capacity than their 30-litre counterparts, but thus are relatively less portable - using sack trucks / trolleys to transport them would ameliorate this disadvantage.
LITTLE-KNOWN FACT: * The 50-litre barrels are more stable (e.g. when stacked) than the 30-litre barrels we offer, as the 50-litre barrels are squatter (having a lower centre of gravity). This is an important logistical (e.g. considering an oil collection-round using a van) and mass-storage (e.g. pertinent to storing waste in the confined space of a kitchen) commendation.
Merits specific to our 200-Litre Food-Grade barrels:
* The 200-litre barrels have a larger capacity than their junior counterparts, but are less portable - using forklifts to transport them would ameliorate this problem. These barrels can be stationary if they are being used for collection purposes - their contents may be pumped out in situ.
LITTLE-KNOWN FACT: * The 200-litre barrels are an excellent money-saver for any size of waste-oil collection enterprise (as an example of their use). Waste collections need only be monthly / bi-monthly (although the risk of mould setting into the contents increases with passing time). With approximately 4 barrels to a pallet, it might be possible to have full containers delivered to the collector via a pallet service, instead of the collector journeying to the waste supplier.
